Time: 2-3:45 PM MST
Prerequisite: Mastery 2 – Module 1 & 2 (for Fiddle School members only)
Module 3 of the Mastery: Session 2 Certification Program includes Lessons 21, 22, 23, and 24. These four lessons take us through the completion of Fiddle School Session 2! Here is the long moment that lots of you have been waiting for: it’s time for building speed! This is the skill that many fiddlers dream of, and it doesn’t come easy. The good news is that by the time you arrive at Lesson 21 in the Mastery program, you will have the foundation and repertoire that you’ll need to build speed with success. Next up, we’ll delve into the history, lineage, and style of Western Swing and twin fiddle harmonies. Key genre elements in this style – such as long bows, long notes, and smooth, slow bow stylings — will set you up perfectly for Lesson 23, which will land in November when shorter days and cool nights offer the perfect time to hunker down at home and take your intonation and ear training to the next level. There’s no better motivation than to do this with a group of fiddlers practicing the same skill sets. To complete our work, the year will end with a focus on performance tips, nerve management, and how to have the mindset of a champion fiddler. Lesson topics include: How to Build Speed, Western Swing, Intonation, and Play Like a Champion.
To earn a certificate, your final presentation will entail:
- Prepare 6 songs from Session 2 to perform for the class
- Tunes must be memorized
- Play along with the guitar part
Please note that on our presentation days, class may last longer than usual.
At Fiddle School, we take our hats off to everyone who completes the full Session 2. Still, it’s one thing to complete the session and it’s another to really feel like you’ve arrived at the next level. The Mastery Program is built to give you accountability and test (as well as reinforce) your Session 2 skills. From knowing your tunes inside and out to solidifying your bowing and positioning, you will have truly leveled up when you complete this class and get the Mastery 2 Certification. You’ll gain confidence and fluency in your playing while establishing that “natural” fiddle sound. We’re going to review every Session 2 technique to make sure that you have them readily accessible in your tool kit. Graduate from the Session 2 Mastery Program with the knowledge and comfort that you have fully integrated all of Session 2: How to Reach Your Next Level into your fiddling. This class is for intermediate and advanced fiddlers!
