Description
With Katie Glassman
Thursday: February 11, March 11
Level: 4-5
Prerequisite: Swing Improv Workouts
This Swing Study Hall is a small-group opportunity for more experienced and advanced improvisers to get some extra time to solidify all of the Swing Workout skills and go deeper with the repertoire. We’ll work through arpeggio patterns and solo ideas, I’ll teach some of my own crafted solos, and I’ll assign some favorite solos to transcribe. We’ll continue “playing the changes” and connecting chord tones over a range of tempos. I’ve built this class to help you further internalize the relationship between melody, chords, and improvisation, and to help you tap into your own creativity as you translate your new musical ideas to expression. This “study hall” will be all about meeting you at your advanced level by adding to your swing vocabulary, deepening your swing feel, and developing intentional phrasing (instead of just getting lucky ;). Also, with a small group, I’ll be able to give more individual feedback. Let’s keep on swingin’!
